Android Phones: Motorola Atrix 2 now at RM1,599

December 26th, 2011 by ytechcity

The Motorola Atrix 2 is finally here with the price tag of RM1,599 from IMCC. Despite having a “2? behind the Atrix name, it isn’t really a full fledged replacement.

First, the screen is increased from 4.0″ to 4.3″ which is an improvement with non-Pentile display. The screen resolution is still maintained at qHD which pushes a rather high 960×540 pixels. In terms of processor, instead of the 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 on the original Atrix, the Atrix 2 uses a 1GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4430. This puts it a notch lower than the RM1,999 Motorola RAZR that runs on 1.2GHz dual-core.

At the back, the camera is given an upgrade from 5MP to 8MP which now shoots 1080p HD videos. Unfortunately the battery capacity is reduced from 1,930mAh down to 1,785mAh. The Atrix 2 supports HSPA+ with download speeds up to 21Mbps which is similar to the Samsung Galaxy S II. It is also worth pointing out that the Atrix 2 doesn’t come with a bio-metric fingerprint scanner which was available on the original Atrix.

iPhone Tips: Recablibrate Your iPhone’s Home Button

December 25th, 2011 by ytechcity

iPhone-Home-Button

This quick tip came from iDB which apparently allows you to recalibrate you device’s Home button. I’m sure most of you are familiar with the Home button getting more laggy and unresponsive as time goes on. Most would credit it to wear and tear while others may think that this problem is software based. As it turns out, this particular problem can be alleviated by simply recablirating the Home button. I’ve tested it myself and it does made my Home button more snappier than before. You should try it out, the steps are rather easy.

Steps on How to Recalibrate Your iPhone’s Home Button
1. Launch any of the iOS’s stock applications like Weather, Stocks, Settings etc.
2. Once the app has been launched, press and hold the Power button for a few seconds and the “Slide to Power Off” screen should appear.
3. Now press and hold your iDevice’s Home button until the “Slide to Power Off” screen disappears followed by the stock app force quit. After that the screen will return to the Springboard.

And that’s pretty much it! Your iPhone’s Home button should be calibrated now. This quick tip works with pretty much all iOS devices, so go ahead and give it a try.

iPhone jailbreak: How to Unlock iOS 5.0.1 With UltraSn0w

December 25th, 2011 by ytechcity

As the UltraSn0w 1.2.5 Unlock Released For iOS 5.0.1 support in tow for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. So, how do you make it work?

Now, iDB was show you a tutorial that how to verify if you qualify for an unlock, and how to go about unlocking your iPhone with UltraSn0w 1.2.5…

Step 1: Make sure you have a qualifying baseband.

To check this go to Settings > General > About and check the “Modem Firmware” section at the bottom of the page. If you are on an iPhone 4 and the Modem Firmware says 01.59.00, you can unlock. If you are on an iPhone 3GS and your firmware is any of the following: 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04, or 06.15.00 you can unlock.

If your baseband doesn’t meet the above requirements, stop here. You are not eligible for unlock. iPhone 4S is currently not unlockable.

Step 2: If you haven’t already, upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 and preserve your baseband when doing so.

Step 3: Jailbreak your iPhone 5.0.1.

Step 4: Go to Cydia and search for “UltraSn0w”. Install UltraSn0w 1.2.5.

Step 5: Remove your old SIM card and replace with new SIM card e.g. a T-Mobile SIM. You may need to cut your SIM to fit the micro-SIM slot. See the video for more details.

Step 6: Give your iPhone a few seconds, and it should now be on the new network, courtesy of the UltraSn0w 1.2.5 iOS 5.0.1 unlock.

Unless you got an iPhone 4 at launch and you were very careful to preserve it all of this time, it’s fairly unlikely that your baseband still qualifies.

December 25th, 2011 by ytechcity

It has now been over 2 months since Apple released iOS 5, and we still don’t have a working untethered jailbreak. The company has obviously made things a little more complicated for hackers. But, an infamous hacker pod2g continues to prove. The security expert has just uploaded a new video of an untethered jailbreak running on an iPhone 4, and has given a status update on its progress…

From pod2g’s blog post:

“Here is a new video demo of the current status of the iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak running on an iPhone 4. This is meant to reassure people that were thinking it only works on older iPods. The jailbreak is near ready for prime time (excluding 4S and iPad 2). Patches are the same as redsn0w’s. Expect the same level of stability. Some more days to wait. Be patient, we’re doing our best.”

The iPhone Dev-Team just released the newest version of Ultrasn0w, which is now version 1.2.5. The latest version of UltraSn0w has made its way to Cydia, and it supports the latest publicly available iPhone firmware, iOS 5.0.1.

You will still need an unlockable baseband to utilize ultrasn0w, but if you meet the requirements, it is now possible to unlock your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS running iOS 5.0.1…

You will need a jailbroken device to utilize UltraSn0w 1.2.5. Your baseband must also meet the following requirements:

iPhone 4: baseband 01.59.00
iPhone 3GS: basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04, 06.15.00

In addition to that, it only supports iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. Since the iPhone 4S has yet to be jailbroken, using Ultrasn0w on the device is simply not possible.
