Cydia Tweak: 5 Great Jailbreak Tweaks for Mobile Safari

January 2nd, 2012 by ytechcity

If you’re looking to supercharge your iPhone’s Mobile Safari browser, then look no further than Cydia. There, jailbreakers will find a plethora of tweaks to add certain features to Apple’s bare bones web browser. In fact, there are so many tweaks available on Cydia that it’s easy to get lost if you’re relatively new to jailbreaking, or even if you’ve been going at it for a long time.

With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of five of our favorite jailbreak tweaks to get the most out of Mobile Safari. Some of he tweak are not free.

Safari Download Manager
Safari Download Manager is a great application that really unleashes to power of the iPhone, allowing you to download and save on your device virtually any file out there. support ios 4 only.

FullScreen for Safari – $2.19
This tweak allows you to enable full screen mode in Safari, along with OS X Lion like gestures for navigation. FullScreen for Safari is an extremely well thought out tweak, especially for those who lament over the iPhone’s 3.5? screen.

Gridtab for Safari – $1.50
If Apple’s tabbed browsing interface infuriates you, don’t worry; you’re not alone. GridTab for Safari places your tabs in more legible grids for easy identification.

Tab+ – Free
This tweak lends you the ability to open more than 8 tabs at once. We’re not sure what the limit is, but we’re guessing you can keep going until your device runs out of memory.

Safari Unibar – Free
A very interesting tweak that allows you to have a Google Chrome styled OmniBar to perform both searches and direct URL browsing using only one bar. The dedicated search bar is no more with Safari UniBar. To that we say good riddance.

What do you think about this list? Is there anything obvious that I missed? Let us know in the comments!

iPhone Jailbreak: MobileSubstrate Updated to Fix Cydia Tweak Crashes on iOS 5.0.1 Untether

MobileSubstrate-Updated-to-Fix-Cydia-Tweak

Saurik has pushed an update for MobileSubstrate that addresses the crashing of jailbreak tweaks from Cydia on the iOS 5.0.1 untether. Coincidentally, RedSn0w was updated this morning with a fix for MobileSubstrate crash errors as well by released the RedSn0w beta3 version.

Users that are jailbroken on iOS 5.0.1 can install version 0.9.3955 of MobileSubstrate now in Cydia to fix tweak crashes. Another huge perk is that MobileSubstrate no longer requires that you reboot iOS every time you install or upgrade the package.

Long-time jailbreakers know the pain of having to reboot your iOS device every time MobileSubstrate installs or upgrades itself. That is no longer the case thanks to this new version.

Users have reported that certain Cydia packages crash on the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak, so this MobileSubstrate update should fix the issue. Saurik has also noted that Substrate is now compatible with the idea of a “semi-tethered” jailbreak, indicating the possibility of an easier jailbreaking process in the future.

iPhone jailbreak: RedSn0w iOS 5.0.1 Untether Updated With Fix For MobileSubstrate Error

RedSn0w_0910b3

The Dev Team has released beta 3 of RedSn0w for the Mac and PC to fix an error that caused MobileSubstrate to sometimes crash on jailbroken iOS devices. This specific error only seemed to crash MobileSubstrate when the latest iOS 5.0.1 untether in RedSn0w was run over an existing jailbreak.

From the Dev Team blog:

The b3 version of redsn0w fixes a problem where re-running redsn0w over an existing jailbreak would cause MobileSubstrate-based apps to stop running until MS was installed again. Now you can re-run the redsn0w jailbreak step without worrying about that (but still remember to de-select the “Install Cydia” option if it’s already installed).

Another tip: If RedSn0w tells you that no identifying data was found when it auto-detects your IPSW, then you can pre-select your iOS device’s 5.0.1 IPSW in RedSnow’s Extras >Select IPSW menu.

As always, you can download the latest RedSn0w beta from below. This latest beta follows an update from yesterday that fixed the “launchctl” error in Cydia. We have the tutorials for jailbreaking iOS 5.0.1 for Windows.
