SE-Xperia-ray

The Sony Ericsson Xperia ray and the Xperia active — will be making their way to Malaysia in Q3 of this year. Xperia ray is something like an Xperia arc mini with its 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 8.1MP camera with Exmor R and 720p video recording capabilities. The only difference between the ray and the arc is that the ray runs a 3.3-inch while the arc has a 4.2-inch display. In any case, both displays utilises Sony’s proprietary Reality Display technology and is enhanced with Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA Engine.

Also interesting to point out is that the 3.3-inch screen on the Xperia ray has the same 854×480 pixel resolution as the arc, but the screen on the Xperia ray is smaller, you get a higher pixel density which means crisper images.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia active is Sony Ericsson’s version of a rugged Android. The Xperia active is rated IP67 which means it is dust and water resistant in waters up to a metre deep and can stay submerged for up to 30 minutes. It also features wet finger tracking, barometer, pedometer, pulse meter, HD recording and runs on Android Gingerbread with a 1GHz processor.

In addition to this, the Xperia active features a Bravia Mobile Engine enhanced 3-inch 320×480 Reality Display and a 5MP camera with 720p HD-video recording.

Details are still preliminary but it’s pretty much confirmed that the two devices will be coming to Malaysia.

Cydia Twek: GroupTones- Assign Ringtones to Your Contact Groups

August 15th, 2011 by ytechcity

Cydia-Tweak-GroupTones

GroupTones- a cydia tweak which allows you to assign specific ringtones for each of those groups, so you can tell callers apart without looking at your phone. This would help you to instantly identify if the person calling you is a friend, or family.

The nice thing about GroupTones is that it installs directly into your Phone app, and can be accessed from the Groups panel. The tweak works with local, MobileMe and Google Contact groups, and it also supports FaceTime calls.

Features:-
– You’re still able to assign ringtones and text tones to individual contacts
– Supports local, MobileMe, and Google contact groups
– Supports FaceTime calls
– Smoothly integrates into system apps rather than being a separate application

The iPhone lets you customize ringtones for each contact, but that can get tedious if you have a lot of numbers for. I obviously wouldn’t recommend this for someone who doesn’t use groups, but for those that do this might be a great find. GroupTones will run you $2.99 in the Cydia Store.

What do you think of GroupTones? Do you prefer a different utility?

Cydia Tweak: Copic- Add Contact Photos to your Call Lists, Contact Lists, and Text Messages

August 15th, 2011 by ytechcity

SMSEnhancer adds contact photos to the Messages app, and IPicMyContacts does the same for your contact list. And then there’s Copic, which actually does what the other two tweaks do, and more….
Copic, short for Contact Picture, describes itself as an all-in-one application that shows contact pictures “everywhere in your iDevice.” The utility works with the Phone, Messages and Contact apps.

Not only does Copic take the place of the aforementioned utilities, it also adds a couple of features. It embeds photos into both the recent call and Favorites lists on the iPhone, and even supports the FaceTime application on the iPad 2 and iPod Touch.

Like most tweaks, Copic doesn’t add an icon to your springboard. Once installed, simply pop into your Settings app to start customizing. If you want to try it out, Copic is available in Cydia for $1.29.

Have you tried Copic yet?

Cydia Tweak: NoSearchCorrect- Disable Autocorrect in Safari Search Field

August 15th, 2011 by ytechcity

nosearchcorrecton

The autocorrect feature in iOS is pretty annoying. Where is it the most annoying? The Safari search bar. Everyone knows the search field is much better at predicting what you’re typing than Apple’s autocorrect.

And for that reason, Filippo Bigarella created NoSearchCorrect. This simple utility disables the frustrating feature when performing searches in mobile Safari. This tweak adds no new icons to your SpringBoard or a settings tab in the Settings.app. Below is a picture that shows when NoSearchCorrect is not installed (as the header picture shows when it is installed).

nosearchcorrectoff

NoSearchCorrect is fairly new, and as of this writing it isn’t in Cydia yet. But if you’d like to go ahead and check it out, you can download the .deb file from Mr. Bigarella’s GitHub page. If you need a refresher on installing .deb files, check out our step-by-step tutorial.

Will you be trying out this new tweak?

Cydia Tweak: IconCommands- Make Your Icon Tapping More Productive

August 15th, 2011 by ytechcity

icon-commands

IconCommands allows you to set customized actions for when you tap on an app icon. For example, you can set applications to launch on a single tap, hide once double tapped, and delete after 3 taps. I know it sounds similar to Apptivator, but it’s actually very different…

IconCommands doesn’t tie in with Activator the way Apptivator does. There are 6 pre-programmed actions that can be activated by an icon tap (or taps): App Info, Add Icon to Photo Library, Delete, Hide, Set Jiggling, and Launch Icon.

The cool thing is, you can program a function for up to 8 taps. So if you wanted to be able to delete an app by tapping its icon 7 times, you could. I’ll be honest though, tapping an icon gets tedious after 4 times, so the utility really could have stopped there.

Actions are set from the IconCommands tab in the Settings app, and changes reflect quickly without needing to respring. It’s also important to know that programmed functions apply to every app icon, so you can’t have different settings for different applications.

All together the tweak works very well, and if you find yourself frequently hiding and deleting apps, it could definitely save you some time. If you want to check out IconCommands for yourself, it’s available in Cydia for $1.99.
