Software: TinyUmbrella Updated With iOS 5 Beta 6 Support

September 4th, 2011 by ytechcity

Heads up for those of you who are currently running one of the beta versions of iOS 5. Notcom recently updated TinyUmbrella, which now brings support for iOS 5 Beta 4, 5 and 6.

Unfortunately, it seems that this latest version was released right before Apple dropped iOS 5 Beta 7, so TinyUmbrella won’t support the latest beta…

As usual, it’d be wise to save your SHSH blobs. Not sure what we’re talking about here? Make sure to check our SHSH guide.

You can download the latest version of TinyUmbrella here.

Cydia Tweak: BackForwardList for Safari- Access Browser History

September 4th, 2011 by ytechcity

BackForwardList for Safari is a free Mobile Safari tweak for your iPhone or iPad that allows you to hold the browser’s “back” or “forward” buttons to launch a list of the different pages you’ve recently visited.

BackForwardList for Safari gives you a full history list of all of your previously visited sites, by tapping and holding the back or forward buttons at the bottom of the browser. Each item on the list can be deleted by swiping across it, and all the items on the list can quickly be cleared by clearing your Mobile Safari history in Settings.app.

This makes it a whole lot easier than manually going in, and searching your history for a specific page; most modern desktop browsers have this functionality baked in.

There are no icons added to your homescreen and no settings to configure with this tweak. BackForwardList for Safari is available for free in Cydia. If you have a jailbroken iPhone, you can find it conveniently located on Cydia’s BigBoss repo.

iPhones: SmartKeyboard Concept Gives the iPhone a Physical Keyboard

September 4th, 2011 by ytechcity

When Apple introduced the iPad 2, the Smart Cover also debuted as a new accessory for the device. Apple designed the iPad 2 with magnets that interface with the Smart Cover to wake the device from sleep when opened.

The iPhone’s virtual keyboard is a fantastic replacement for a physical keyboard, but some consider the lack of physical buttons to be the iPhone’s main downfall. A genius new concept takes the Smart Cover approach to offering a detachable physical keyboard for the iPhone…

Highlighted by Mobiflip, the SmartKeyboard concept, by Jing Yang, illustrates a tactical keyboard that can be removed and attached to the iPhone like the iPad’s Smart Cover. Instead of a slide out keyboard solution, the SmartKeyboard could be easily taken off the iPhone when not in use. This would give those that need a physical keyboard for typing longer emails or documents a temporary attachment.

This concept is sleek, beautiful, and totally Apple-like. The keyboard even has backlit keys. The SmartKeyboard would simple attach to the bottom of the iPhone with magnets. The only downside is that the keyboard would cover the home button when in use. But if you’re using the SmartKeyboard to type for longer periods of time, switching in and out of apps isn’t really that big of a deal.
