The HTC Explorer is finally available for sale in Malaysia with a RRP of RM759 which we found it at SuperBuy website (subsidiary and new online retail arm of Lelong.my). If you order online, they are offering it with discount at RM729 which also can be paid with 6 or 12 month installments by credit card.

In term of specification, the HTC Explorer runs on a 600MHz processor, 512MB of RAM with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread OS installed. It has a 3.2? HVGA display with 480×320 resolution and comes with 512MB of storage which is expandable via microSD, and 3MP camera at the back.

The HTC Explorer is HTC’s cheapest Android phone to date and it fits right between the Samsung Galaxy W and Galaxy Y in terms of pricing. Which is a better phone depends on usability experience and built quality. If you’re looking for an Android phone with QWERTY keyboard, the HTC ChaCha is now selling at RM799.

Android Phones: HTC announces most affordable Android phone- Explorer

October 28th, 2011 by ytechcity

HTC has just announced the HTC Explorer, its latest entry-level Android smartphone. The HTC claims that the Explorer is its most affordable smartphone.

The Explorer packs a 3.2-inch HVGA display with 320 x 480 resolution, a modest 600MHz processor, 512MB of RAM and a 3MP camera. The device runs Android 2.3.5 with the latest HTC Sense 3.5 UI skin on top.

Judging by the specs, the HTC Explorer fits below the current HTC entry-level Android phone, the HTC Wildfire S which features identical specifications save for the camera. The Wildfire S has a 5MP camera while the Explorer carries a 3MP unit.

The Explorer comes in three colours — Metallic Black, Active Black and Metallic Navy — and if you want to customise the device further, there will be optional back covers in Metallic Blue, Metallic Orange, Metallic White and Metallic Purple shades as well.

The Explorer is expected to be available in Asia starting Q4 2011 and no pricing has been announced at this moment.

Video: iPhone 4S drop test

October 23rd, 2011 by ytechcity

The iPhone 4S is release in the US and several markets. While many can’t wait to unbox and play around with the latest iPhone, somebody just couldn’t wait to destroy it with a drop test.

To make things more dramatic, the drop test is done right outside AT&T in front of others that are still lining up. You can say some people are just wasteful but this video is more of a promo for repair service that specialise on iPhones. Was the damage worth it? That depends if the number of views generated is worth the damage. Since they are repair guys, this could be a small price to pay.

Siri: Lost in Translation

What did we tell you about Siri having problems with the way Asians speak English? Check out this video showing the usually articulate Siri struggling to understand an English-speaking Japanese guy.

Siri is awesome but probably not so in other countries. How would think Siri will fair with the way we Malaysians speak English?

Video: iPhone 4S torn down by iFixit

October 23rd, 2011 by ytechcity

The iPhone 4S has finally gotten its innards expose with iFixit professional tear down. Apart from the new processor, 8MP camera and dual CDMA/GSM support, we are able to find out what else is new on this model compared to the previous iPhone 4.

First is the RAM which was earlier said to be either 512MB or 1GB. From the tear down, it is finally confirmed that the iPhone 4S offers 512MB which is the same capacity as the previous model. This was identified from the marking on the A5 chip.

Another surprise is the battery which has a slightly higher capacity of 5.3Whr. This is 0.05Whr more than the original iPhone 4 which is rated at 5.25Whr. For those that are used to mAh battery capacity rating, that’s an extra 14mAh. The vibrator is using the one found on the CDMA version of the iPhone 4 which is reported to be quieter and softer than the previous version.
