HTC has revealed two new WP7 smart phones – HTC Titan and the HTC Radar. Both devices come with latest Windows Phone 7.5 Mango and existing HTC WP7 devices is said to be getting Mango update starting from mid this month.

The HTC Radar is a smaller device with a 3.8? screen that resembles a HTC Flyer-like colour scheme design. Earlier on this was rumoured as the HTC Omega. In terms of design, the HTC Radar stands out with its single piece metal build which we’ve seen on selected HTC devices.

Instead of a 1.5GHz processor, the Radar use a lower spec 1GHz single core processor, comes with 512MB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. In terms of optics, the Radar has a lower LED flash assisted 5MP but it also features a F2.2 lens with a BSI Sensor for low light photography. For the front, it has a VGA resolution camera. The Radar is juiced up with a 1520mAh Lithium Ion Battery.

HTC Titan which has a gigantic 4.7? screen which does 800×480 resolution. Despite its huge screen, the Titan’s unibody design is only 9.9mm thick. It’s also big on the inside, with a 1.5GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Since it has a large 4.7? screen, the Titan is also an entertainment device with integration with HTC Watch, Xbox Live and Zune.

One of the main highlights is its camera. While 8MP main camera is common these days, the Titan offers a F2.2 lens with a BSI sensor which gives you optimal pictures even in low light conditions. We’ve yet to see any sample shots and we are eager to see how it compares to the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc and Nokia N9. Since photography plays a vital role, both HTC Titan and Radar has a dedicated camera button that lets you go straight into camera mode without unlocking the screen. There’s also a 1.3MP camera at the front. Powering the device is a 1600mAh Lithium Ion Battery.

Windows Phone 7 devices are getting more affordable with now Celcom offering the LG Optimus 7 from as low as RM668. This is a big reduction which is lower than its initial RM777 offer for the first 150 units a few months ago.

Outright the device is priced at RM2099 and Celcom offers 4 different plan options with 12 months and 18 months contract duration. The RM668 bundle offer is tied on a 18 months contract with Celcom Exec 250 which comes with 5GB mobile data. For those who want smaller commitments, there are other lower commitment plans between RM78-RM118/month.

Just a few days ago, Maxis had reduced their HTC HD7 bundled pricing to as low as RM799 which is tied to a 24 months contract. Now we’re wondering if DiGi drop their WP7 pricing as well.

For more info, head over to Celcom’s Windows Phone 7 site.

While the BlackBerry Playbook supports Android Apps, the little green droid is now making its way to Windows Platform. BlueStacks has announced that it is developing a program which lets you run Android apps in Windows environment seamlessly. At the present moment, BlueStacks is readily bundled on ViewSonic ViewPad 10 Pro tablet and they working with various PC vendors towards making it a standard for upcoming Windows tablet and all-in-one desktops. Strangely Windows Phone 7 is not in the picture.

With BlueStacks, you are able to run both Android and Windows simultaneously and it even supports multi-touch on touch screen computers and Windows tablets. If this is done right with acceptable performance, this will expand the choices of apps for Windows tablet devices.

Other interesting features include:
•The ability to run Windows and Android on two separate displays if you have a computer with dual monitors.
•Users can easily switch between Android and Windows with the press of a button – there’s no need for a reboot.
•App store downloads (official Android Market is unsupported at this time but Amazon app store is said to work)

In addition to running Android apps on a Windows computer, data can be shared between both operating systems, introducing a whole new level of functionality to your Android apps. Apps that are run in BlueStacks work with touchscreens, regular mice, and magic trackpads. This means that you’ll even be able to install BlueStacks onto a Windows tablet to run your Android apps from there without a hitch.

It is not officially available right now but you can sign up for their alpha program here.

Microsoft: Releases Internet Explorer 9 (IE9)

April 30th, 2011 by ytechcity

internet-explorer-9

After about 1 year of public testing since its 1st release of Platform Preview to developers on March 2010, Microsoft finally releases Internet Explorer 9 (IE9).

IE9 improves on support to the latest web technologies nowadays, including HTML5, CSS3, SVG, XHTML, and a new Javascript engine called “Chakra” (is this developed by Indian developers). It also features GPU-powered hardware acceleration for better and faster graphical and video support.

However, IE9 is only made available for Windows 7 and Windows Vista, and is not supporting Windows XP. This means that if you are still using Windows XP and want to use a modern web browser, you are forced to upgrade to later version of Windows, or you better change your favourite browser to the upcoming Firefox 4 or Chrome 9, which will also support for the latest web technologies, and at the same time still available to Windows XP.

Is it worth the download? Is it better than Google’s Chrome browser or Mozilla’s Firefox?
