Jailbreak: Siri port for non-iPhone 4S hardware

October 30th, 2011 by ytechcity

A video was posted yesterday by esteemed jailbreak developer chpwn (Grant Paul) and Steven Troughton-Smith. Multiple stories from different sources have been published on a Siri port for non-iPhone 4S hardware, and this most recent video demonstrates the software running on an iPhone 4 and 4th generation iPod touch.

There have been multiple parties working on a Siri port on and off for weeks now. It’s not a new fact that the Siri UI can be run on non-4S hardware. As you can see in the above videos, Steven and Grant have been able to get Siri connecting with Apple’s server. Performance is smooth and Siri responds very quickly.

The first public evidence for a Siri port to the iPhone 4 was posted by Steve Troughton-Smith weeks ago in conjunction with Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac. A second video was posted showing performance enhancements, but Siri would still not connect with the device. Only the Siri UI had been ported, not the full package.

Samsung: Galaxy W sell at RM999

October 28th, 2011 by ytechcity

Samsung Galaxy W for an affordable RM999 in Malaysia. The Galaxy W is a mid-tier device in their new naming convention and is actually a replacement for their current Samsung Galaxy Ace.

Despite being a mid-tier device, the Galaxy W is no slouch as it runs on a single core 1.4GHz processor and it has Android 2.3 Gingerbread installed. It has a larger 3.7inchi S-LCD display with 800×480 resolution. Internally comes with 2GB storage and 512MB of RAM. For imaging, it has a 5MP camera with assisted flash that’s capable of shooting 720p HD videos. There’s also a VGA camera at the front for video calls. They have also thrown in a rather generous 1500mAh battery as well.

For RM999, the Galaxy W packs quite a lot for less which puts other expensive rivals to shame. Seems like Samsung is able to give HTC a run for their money.

Samsung: Galaxy Y revealed Pre-order now at RM499

October 28th, 2011 by ytechcity

Samsung Galaxy Y, an entry level Android smart phone. The pricing is written as RM499 outright with Superbuy offering it for a discounted price of RM475. At the moment, it is only available for pre-order which we believe full availability would be happening in the next couple of weeks. IMCC, a popular online retailer has yet to put up any details of the Galaxy Y.

The Samsung Galaxy Y is a replacement for the existing Samsung Galaxy 5/Mini which has been selling rather well for under RM700. Now at a much lowered RM499 price, it comes with a decent 832MHz processor, 3 inchi QVGA TFT screen, 2MP Camera and a 1200mAh battery. On board there’s 160MB of storage which is expandable via microSD. The Galaxy Y runs on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread.

Priced below RM500 mark, the Galaxy Y is probably the cheapest Android smartphone running on Android 2.3 in the market. Earlier on, we’ve seen the Samsung Galaxy W going for RM999 which is quite a bargain for a 1.4GHz Android with a decent 3.7inchi WVGA screen. It is obvious now that Samsung is aggressively hitting the smart phone segment at all price range.

Motorola: Atrix price drops from RM1,999 to RM1,599

October 23rd, 2011 by ytechcity

Malaysia’s most up-to-date smartphone store, IMCC, announced that it has dropped the pricing of the Motorola Atrix from RM1,999 previously to RM1,599 currently, save RM400.

Touted as the world’s more powerful smartphone when it was initially launched in January this year, the Atrix was amongst the first smartphones with a dual-core processor. In this case, the Atrix came with a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, a 4.0-inch qHD 960×540 display, a 5MP camera and a massive 1930mAh battery.

IMCC is also throwing a multimedia dock retailing for RM439 for free. The dock allows the Atrix to be connected to a HD TV via HDMI out. It also allows you to connect a USB keyboard and mouse as well.
