Nokia has revealed the X3 Touch & Type that offers a 2.4? QVGA touch screen and a 12-button keypad. According to Nokia’s SVP of Design, the keypad is great for single handed texting while the touch screen offers the easiest control on the interface, giving users the best of both worlds. Nokia X3-02 Touch and Type is also the first S40 touch-driven device to get a global release.

This “Hybrid” input device has dimension of 106mm x 48mm x 9.6mm which makes it one of Nokia’s slimmest devices to date. It also just weights a tiny 78g. On the technical aspects, the device offers 3G/HSPA, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, FM Radio and a 5MP Camera. The music fans will also appreciate the 3.5mm audio jack. However we find it odd that they left out GPS which should come standard with in a phone like this.

The device runs on Symbian Series 40 Touch & Type edition and for storage, it has a removable microSD slot that supports up to 16GB. Nokia X3-02 should hit the shelves before the end of next month in White Silver, Dark Metal, Petrol Blue, Pink and Lilac color versions.

Design wise, the X3 Touch and Type is simple yet sleek with a brushed aluminium finish for the back. On the front, keypad however is slightly different with the typical last row keys such as hash, asterix and zero moved to the right most column.

News: Two new WiMAX laptops for P1 W1MAX 1NSiDE Plan

August 17th, 2010 by ytechcity

wimax_inside_laptops

P1 has quietly offer two new notebooks into their WiMAX laptop line up for P1 W1MAX 1NSiDE Plan.

The two new P1 WiMAX laptop are from Asus and MSi.

The new Asus K42F has a 14.1in display and runs an Intel core i3-370M with 320GB of storage and an unimpressive 2GB of RAM (DDR3) — we’d expect at least 4GB from Asus, a manufacturer that prides itself in providing good value at even better prices. As you’d expect, wireless connectivity comes in the form of Bluetooth and WiMAX + WiFi b/g/n. Don’t however expect to do any worthwhile gaming on this machine as it run on Intel’s built-in card. Though as a media PC the K42F comes packing a HDMI out and Altec Lansing speakers with SRS Premium sound technology as well a pretty attractive gloss finish. Asking price for the Asus, RM2,699.

The other new WiMAX notebook is the MSi FX400 also with a 14.1in screen. It runs on Intel Core i3-350 with 500GB of storage as the same 2GB DDR3 RAM. Again, we would like to see more RAM included into devices in this price range. The good thing about the MSi is it comes with an nVidia GeForce GT 325M graphics card with 1GB RAM. Bluetooth, WiMAX + WiFI b/g/n all comes as standard. The MSi goes for RM2,699. No guesses on which one offers the better value.

We had the opportunity to play with the MSi FX400 for a few days a coupole of months back and if we had to choose between the two, our money’s on the MSi.

The six months free P1 1NSiDE offer is still on for both devices. That means if you purchase any WiMAX notebook and activate your P1 account, you’ll get free six months P1 1NSiDE broadband for free. The P1 1NSiDE plan gives you 15GB data cap a month with no speed cap for RM89.

Android: Send links to your Android phone via Google Chrome

August 16th, 2010 by ytechcity

Even wanted to send browser links to your phone so that you can read it during lunch?

Well now you can with the new Chrome to Phone extension that adds a button to your Google Chrome browser that instantly sends web pages, maps, YouTube videos, phone numbers and even copied texts to your Android smartphone.

With Chrome to Phone you can send links from your browsing session straight to your Android device so you can continue browsing the same content on your phone. Chrome to Phone works with Google Maps as well, so once you’ve found the directions to where you want to go next, you can send the link directly to your Android device and it will automatically launch the Google Maps app ready for you to get going on your journey.

Same goes for links on YouTube as well as phone numbers on a web page. Let’s say you want to make a dinner reservation and the place you want to make the reservations have their contacts online, all you need to do is send the contact over to your Android device using Google Chrome to Phone and your phone will launch its dialer with the selected number already entered, ready for you to make the call. You can also select text on browsers and send them over to your phone. Doing so will automatically copy the text and launch your Android clipboard for later viewing.

Unfortunately, Google Chrome to Phone only works with devices running Android 2.2 (Froyo). For the many Malaysian Android fans out there, that means you can’t use Google Chrome to Phone at the moment because none of the Android devices widely available here have official Froyo updates (unless of course, if you have the Nexus One or Droid 2).

If you do have a Nexus One or Droid 2, you can get Chrome to Phone by installing the extension in your Google Chrome browser and the Android application on your phone from Android Market, and you’re ready to go.
