ASUS Malaysia has announced via Facebook that the Eee Pad Slider is coming to Malaysia. This is the 2nd Eee Pad series of honeycomb tablets to enter the country after the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer. No launch dates and pricing have been revealed so far.

Based on earlier specs, the Eee Pad Slider is powered with a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM and choices of 16GB or 32GB storage options. Screenwise, it has an identical 10.1? WSVGA (1280×800) IPS. In terms of connectivity, it has a mini USB port, 1x Audio Jack, micro SD card reader, a docking port and a mini HDMI out.

We wonder which version ASUS Malaysia decides to bring in and for how much? In the earlier announcement, it was said to be priced between US$499 – US$799.

For those of you with iPads or Playbooks, Google has recently spruced up the mobile version of Gmail on the web. The new interface looks a lot more similar to the Honeycomb version of Gmail feature window panes and email previews. One of the newer features is the addition of the “pull down to refresh” way of refreshing your inbox. Also added were sharper icons and new screen transitions when opening emails. Maybe these new features of the web and Honeycomb versions of Gmail will give us a preview of what to expect from a future update to the Gmail app on Android.

Google Android captured 48% of the smartphone market in Q2 of 2011, hitting an all-time high, according to a report by market research firm Canalys.

The platform has been making big strides during the past year, overtaking Symbian in Q4 of 2010 to become the top smartphone platform, representing a 32.9% market share at that time.

Smartphone adoption continues to grow rapidly across the world, reaching a total of 107.7 million units shipped in Q2 of 2011, a 73% year-on-year growth.

Android was the biggest driver of smartphone shipments in Q2, as Android-based smartphone shipments were up 379% year-over-year, coming in at 51.9 million total units shipped. The report cites successful Android-based products from vendors such as Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, ZTE and Huawei, as a catalyst for the platform’s growth.

Apple also fared well, with iOS overtaking Nokia’s Symbian platform to rise from third to second place. A total of 20.3 million iPhones were shipped and Apple raked in a market share of 19%. Apple also became the world’s leading individual smartphone vendor, stripping Nokia of its long-held leadership position.

Samsung also passed Nokia, which has faced a rapid decline in demand across many markets. However, Nokia is still holding strong at number one in emerging markets, including Brazil, Russia, India and China.

HTC Evo 3D- Malaysia’s first 3D Android smartphone — will be coming to DiGi and Maxis in the coming weeks.

So far, no pricing and package details are available expect Maxis to offer its standard Android package which allows you to choose from a range of Maxis Value First or Value Plus plans and add on a data plan that range from 250MB for RM38/month to 3GB for RM88/month. From what we’ve heard, Maxis might also throw in a special 3D content deal just to sweeten the offer but nothing on this is confirmed at the moment.

From DiGi, you can expect the HTC Evo 3D to be offered with the DG Smart Plan with mobile internet and no minimum call usage for as low as RM43/month.

The Evo 3D runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and it has a 3D camera. The Evo 3D has a 4.3-inch QHD display and touch screen. The Evo 3D has two 5-megapixel cameras for capture the 3D video with a flash sitting between.

There is a toggle switch on the side of the smartphone that switches between 2D (1080p) and 3D (720p). Next to that switch is a shutter control and a volume rocker. A second 1.3-megapixel camera sits on the front-face camera. At the top of the phone is a 3.5mm headset jack and power control. There is also a micro-USB charging and syncing port. Other features include 1.2GHz processor, 4GB internal memory, 1730mAh battery, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, Google apps, e-mail, messaging, and a music player.
