Yes: Releases Yes Life app for iOS

May 22nd, 2011 by ytechcity

YesLife

Yes had launched its Yes Life app for iOS devices. Now, you can turn your iPod Touch and iPad into a mobile phone, or add a second line to your iPhone with a Yes 018 mobile number. It’s all possible with the new Yes Life for iOS app, now available on the Apple App Store.

With your Yes ID, you can make calls from almost any iOS device. No SIM required. Simply log in to the Yes Life app on any iOS device with your Yes ID, and make calls and SMS from your own number.

Have Yes Life installed on your PC or Mac? Incoming calls will ring all devices you’re logged-in to so you can choose to take it on both your iOS device or computer. Talk about synchronicity.

If you already have an iPhone, the Yes Life app will run in the background, alerting you to any incoming messages or calls. Now you can have two mobile numbers, without a second phone.

Don’t have a Yes ID? You can sign up for a 14-day trial, with RM5 credit, right on the app.

GPS: Garmin releases MalSingMaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2011.10 for free update

April 30th, 2011 by ytechcity

Garmin has made available MalSingMaps (MSM) Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2011.10 (2011-Q1) for free update now.

You can click here to download the installation file of MalSingMaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2011.10 from Garmin server. The download file is split into 4, and you just need to download the file relevant to your Garmin GPS navigator:

nuvi 3790
nuvi 1250
nuvi 1460, 1350, 765 or 255w
nuvi 205 or 205w
The installation file for nuvi 255w is 237MB (243,671KB), almost the same size with its previous version.

For nuvi 255w, the installation program requires you to have an SD Card slotted in your GPS before it can proceed. It will install gmapprom1.img (42,128KB) and SGMYMAL.JCV (215,403KB) into your SD Card instead of the flash memory of your GPS. This is something new from all the previous nuvi 255w MSM updates. Anyhow, the gmapprom1.unl file is still updated in the flash memory of the GPS.

In fact, you can move gmapprom1.img and SGMYMAL.JCV back to the flash memory of GPS after the installation.

During the installation process, you’ll be asked for the unlock key. The key is stored in the existing gmapprom1.unl file in your Garmin GPS navigator, which you can open with Notepad or any text editor. Just copy and paste the key to the installer when asked.

Maxis: Offers Motorola Xoom with Defy for RM2499

April 30th, 2011 by ytechcity

Maxis has announced today the anticipated Android Honeycomb tablet, the Motorola Xoom will be made available from 6th May onwards. We will be getting the WiFi only version as the 3G version is mentioned to be not available outside the US at the moment.

So how do you get connected you might ask? Maxis is offering a bundle of the Motorola Xoom together with the robust Motorola Defy for a combo price of RM2499. The connectivity for the Xoom is supposedly to come from the Motorola Defy through its portable hotspot feature as mentioned via twitter. Although this is workable, having hotspot enabled would be taxing on the smart phone’s battery and isn’t a recommended solution long term. It would be better if you could connect with a proper WiFi router while the Defy’s hotspot feature is used only when it is absolutely necessary. If we can have it our way, we would prefer the Xoom to be paired together with a MiFi device.

To register your interest, head to Maxis Tablet page here.
