News: Google Nexus S Appears in White

While we are still waiting for the white iPhone 4, Google’s Nexus S is already available in White. Although Apple habitually releases the latest model of iPhone in white, they’ve had a surprisingly difficult time delivering white iPhone 4s this year.

The leaked image comes from Germany via BestBoyz and clearly shows the familiar, Samsung manufactured Nexus S with a white backplate while retaining its black front casing.

To be honest, if the white Nexus S is a real product that Google will be offering, it looks a little half-assed, like they just slapped a new back casing on the handset at the last minute to give people a superficial color option. Still, at least it’ll be available to buy in a timely manner, which is something Apple’s been completely incapable of managing with the white iPhone this generation.

Phone: Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc official video reveal

January 11th, 2011 by ytechcity

2011 and things are looking to turn-around for Japanese-Swede outfit, and the one device that’s leading the charge is the titillating Xperia Arc. Announced at CES last week, not much detail was revealed about the Xperia Arc, up till now.

The official Sony Ericsson Product Blog has posted additional information on the Xperia Arc replete with a short video overview of the UI. Though it’s good to know that there are welcomed improvements coming with the Xperia Arc, like the dual-mic for active noise cancellation the exclusion of a forward-facing camera is perplexing. Also, the UI skin is still looking rather laggy albeit much less than previous incarnations in the earlier Xperias (caveat: the firmware version that is installed in the Xperia Arc in the video is still considered as unfinished).

Specification:
The CPU and GPU specs are: MSM8255 at 1 GHz with Adreno 205
The music player does have an equalizer, my current software has 10 different genre based presets
It does not have a front facing camera
Mediascape is removed in its earlier form and has changed into a customizable widget based “media pane” (as shown briefly in the video)
It’s too early to officially give detailed comments around specific later Android versions for Xperia arc during its lifecycle but the changes we have made to our way of working with Android puts us in a good position to make sure that Xperia arc will get later versions in a timely manner
I’ve seen articles around higher numbers than 2.3 being seen in the display of Xperia arc phones – As I have been informed that is due to a misconfiguration in some samples and nothing to get too excited about really, sorry
It does have two microphones which will be used for noise suppression during phone calls
The camera LED flash is possible to put in four different modes; Auto, Fill-flash, Red-eye Reduction and Off
It does have full multi touch support, I just tried a similar multi touch test app as I did in the video on the X10 and at least in that app it accepts 4 simultaneous touch points without any issues with X- and Y-axis or such things. I will try to get confirmation on final specs in regards to multi touch
It does support wi-fi up to the 802.11n mode.

GPS: Garmin releases MalSingMaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2010.40 for free update

December 26th, 2010 by ytechcity

MSM_with_JV_and_LA

Garmin has made available MalSingMaps (MSM) Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2010.40 (2010-Q4) for free update now.

Due to this improvement, the installation file is much more smaller than the previous version. For example, the installation file for nuvi 255w is now 237MB only (compared with previous version’s 743MB)

The installation program will update gmapprom1.img, gmapprom1.unl, gmap3d.img and SGMYMAL.JCV into your Garmin GPS navigator. As nuvi 255w doesn’t support 3D maps, if you are installing to this model, gmap3d.img will automatically be removed during the end of the installation process.

During the installation process, you’ll be asked for the unlock key. The key is stored in the existing gmapprom1.unl file in your Garmin GPS navigator, which you can open with Notepad or any text editor. Just copy and paste the key to the installer when asked.

Version highlights:
Update Traffic Message Channel in Singapore
DPOI of Singapore
Add more POIs, postal code data and laneinfo of Singapore
Extended road shield of Singapore & Malaysia
Trails are built into the map
Road Signs value-added
Synchronize to Malsingmaps v5.00
Extending more Junction Views for complex intersection around Malaysia

Surprisingly, this version has a smaller SGMYMAL.JCV file of size 217,747kb only (compared with the previous 352,764kb), but it contains more Junction View pictures and more lane assist triggers.

You can download the installation file of MalSingMaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2010.40 from Garmin server. The download file is split into 4, and you just need to download the file relevant to your Garmin GPS navigator:
nuvi 3790
nuvi 1460, 1350, 765 or 255w
nuvi 1250
nuvi 205 or 205w

News: Leaked details of Motorola Tablet with Honeycomb

December 12th, 2010 by ytechcity

Tablet war is begin as Motorola launch a new Motorola Tablet (MOTOPAD) running Android 3.0. Before this, Blackberry just launch PlayBook, and Samsund have Galaxy Tab, and dun forget the ipad from Apple. Earlier on, Andy Rubin had showed off the new Motorola Tablet that runs on honeycomb which promises a whole new Android experience designed for tablet use.

According to Mobile-Review.com, Google is hoping to show off Android 3.0 for the first time with the Motorola MOTOPAD. The MOTOPAD would be the 7-inch tablet that’s also been long-rumored.

Now more details had surfaced with a screenshot above via a Chinese website (Mobile01) which mentioned its possible specs of having:

7-inch and 10-inch versions
32GB storage
NVIDIA Tegra 2 T20 dual-core processor
Gyroscope
1280×800 resolution
5MP camera on the back, 2MP on the front.
microSD
HDMI out
Versions for UMTS, CDMA and LTE (all bases covered!)

It was revealed that the hardware is pretty lightweight but the Honeycomb OS (Android 3.0) still requires some fine tuning. As usual, no launch or pricing details have been revealed at this point but we’re definitely excited to see how does this go head on with the upcoming iPad 2.

Of major concern is how Motorola will price this.
