RIM issued a press release to announce the launch of the BlackBerry PlayBook in 16 countries within the next 30 days.

Neighbours Singapore and Indonesia are among the 16 countries listed. But, sadly, Malaysia not in the list.
At last count, Malaysia has as many BlackBerry users as Indonesia, both with around 1 million users. We’re wondering why the discrimination? Surely local PlayBook hopefuls are bitterly disappointed by this news.

Anyways, listed below is the full 16 countries getting the PlayBook in the next 30 days.

UK
Spain
France
Netherlands
Germany
Italy
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
UAE
India
Hong Kong
Singapore
Indonesia
Australia
Mexico
Colombia
Venezuela

June 8th, 2011 by ytechcity

From the makers of the iPad 2 drop test, we have a new drop test video pitting the Apple tablet against the Motorola Xoom and the evergreen Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.

Both the Xoom and Galaxy Tab have screens strengthened with Gorilla Glass while the iPad is a bit of an unknown. It does have some sort of treated glass but it is not known if the glass is from Corning and by the looks of the video…well just take a look see.

News: ASUS PadFone tablet photos and video revealed

May 30th, 2011 by ytechcity

Asus PadFone has finally been announced at Computex today. Asus PadFone is basically a culmination of two devices, one tablet and one smartphone. This Android First Hybrid 10.1-inch tablet acts as a dock completely hiding the 4.3-inch smartphone within and charging. The tablet half can be employed as a battery for juicing up the handset and one SIM card may be used on both devices. Users should be able to avail of smooth transitioning of apps between phone and slate and a 3G network can be shared between both.

Asus still haven’t announced the final hardware specifications for the Asus PadFone, so I think that we will have to wait for more days to hear about any pricing or availability details.

Maxis: HTC Flyer will coming on 27th May

May 22nd, 2011 by ytechcity

maxis-htc-flyer

Maxis has confirmed that the HTC Flyer will be available from them starting May 27.

Earlier in the Memorandum of Understanding sign by Maxis and HTC, the availability of HTC Flyer was set at May 12 but apparently due to unknown issues, the availability date of the flyer had to be delayed.

What is still unclear and is still intriguing to us is the RM199 deal for the HTC Flyer that Maxis says it will be offering. Maxis COO, Jean Pascal Van Overbeke said that the offer is not a gimmick and its something worth looking forward to.

Come May 27, we will all know if this is indeed true.

GPS: Garmin releases MalSingMaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2011.10 for free update

April 30th, 2011 by ytechcity

Garmin has made available MalSingMaps (MSM) Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2011.10 (2011-Q1) for free update now.

You can click here to download the installation file of MalSingMaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2011.10 from Garmin server. The download file is split into 4, and you just need to download the file relevant to your Garmin GPS navigator:

nuvi 3790
nuvi 1250
nuvi 1460, 1350, 765 or 255w
nuvi 205 or 205w
The installation file for nuvi 255w is 237MB (243,671KB), almost the same size with its previous version.

For nuvi 255w, the installation program requires you to have an SD Card slotted in your GPS before it can proceed. It will install gmapprom1.img (42,128KB) and SGMYMAL.JCV (215,403KB) into your SD Card instead of the flash memory of your GPS. This is something new from all the previous nuvi 255w MSM updates. Anyhow, the gmapprom1.unl file is still updated in the flash memory of the GPS.

In fact, you can move gmapprom1.img and SGMYMAL.JCV back to the flash memory of GPS after the installation.

During the installation process, you’ll be asked for the unlock key. The key is stored in the existing gmapprom1.unl file in your Garmin GPS navigator, which you can open with Notepad or any text editor. Just copy and paste the key to the installer when asked.
