Blackberry: PlayBook Promo video

November 11th, 2010 by ytechcity

The Blackberry PlayBook has a 1,024×600 pixel, 7-inch display, which is smaller than the iPad’s 9.7-inch screen. It includes both a front-facing and a rear-facing camera, and a 1GHz dual-core processor. The initial models will offer Wi-Fi-only connectivity, but RIM has said it plans to offer 3G and 4G models in the future. And unlike the iPad, the PlayBook will support Adobe Flash.

The PlayBook may be available through retail stores such as Best Buy and Target as well as from mobile carriers, Balsillie told Bloomberg. Following its North American debut, the tablet will be released elsewhere in the second quarter. South Korea will be one of the first countries on that list.

News: RIM to sell tablet- BlackBerry Playbook under $500

According to Bloomberg, RIM will start selling the 7? BlackBerry Playbook in North America in Q1 2011 under US$500 (arround RM1550 based on local currency today). According to RIM, the Playbook pricing is competitively priced against Apple’s iPad which starts from US$499. We can only hope that BlackBerry Malaysia will make it more affordable than the Galaxy Tab which retails at RM2699 for outright purchase.

It is too early to tell how well iPad’s real competitors will fare at the moment. The Samsung Galaxy Tab has just launched and the Playbook has yet to make an appearance. The new tablet rivals would also need to prepare themselves for a new iPad which is expected to offer newer features and a possible price reduction. So far the major differenciator for the tablet now are screen size & flash support. Looks like 2011 would be an interesting year for tablet wars.

Last week there was a lot of speculation on the Nexus Two which is rumoured to be developed by Samsung. Now a new story by a Korean news site had reported Samsung denying such speculation and rubbishs the mock design above as nothing but a rumour.

With their November 8th media event, it’s now believed that the new device is more likely the new Samsung Galaxy S based Continuum that comes with a dedicated 2nd screen for time and various status.

However that doesn’t mean that a Samsung developed successor of the Nexus Two is impossible. We would just have to wait and see if there are more sightings or possible leaks on the rumoured device.
