Blogging Tips: How to Setup A Review Website

This guide explains what seems like the easiest way to setup a review website. This would be the sort of site where people review products and services that you have listed on your site. We are going describe a way that is flexible enough that the user can setup any of the three common types of review sites:

1.User Review Site – This is the type of site where users can review and rate a set of items (maybe other websites, books, movies, etc) that the webmaster has put on the site. Users do not add new items, they simply review and rate items put on the site by the owner.

2.User Review and User Content Site – This type of site allows user to add new items to the list of items being reviewed and rated.

3.Webmaster Review Site – This is the type of site where the webmaster just lists a few items of their choosing and rates/reviews them based on their opinions (with no input from the user.) This type of site is typically used by affiliate marketers (who are often just trying to drive traffic to the sites of products on which they make a commission…)

So we started this by checking into the Content Management Systems available for building a review based website. They’re really weren’t any. Most useful CMS’s just offer a way for the user to create a review based site by adding plugins to a site that is initially generic.

After deciding that we’d need to use a Review Plugin, we checked out the plugins for the most popular CMS’s. You can build a review site that utilizes a review plugin using: Joomla, Drupal, WordPress and several others.

For now, we recommend giving WordPress a try with the GD Star Rating plugin. We’re going to create a site like this over the next couple of days – we’ll let you know how it goes and if we decide to change our approach.

Blogging Tips: 5 Tips for Gaining Subscribers to Your Blog

April 28th, 2010 by ytechcity

In order for a blog to generate links and traffic over the long term, you must devise a strategy to acquire an active group of passionate and engaged readers. Use these 5 basic tips as a starting point for gaining blog RSS feed.

1. Make it easy and obvious for readers to subscribe to your blog’s RSS feed. You can achieve this by:
Allowing one-click subscriptions. Offering email subscription for the large percentage of readers who may not be familiar with RSS. Using auto-discovery tags so the RSS icon will appear on the side of the address bar of most browsers. Displaying the RSS icon where readers will see it (above the fold, on every blog page and at the bottom of every post). Including text with the RSS icon for readers not familiar with RSS (for example, “Subscribe Now!”)

2. Take advantage of feed directories. With feed directories, you won’t see hundreds of new blog subscribers to your RSS feed immediately. But you will reach the portion of readers who use these directories to find and subscribe to new feeds. Find a list of submission URLs for RSS directories that you can submit your feed to.

3. Leverage all available resources. If you have an existing blog, newsletter, forum or social media following, you may have an easy time convincing that audience to subscribe to your new blog’s RSS feed. Plus, if they truly enjoy your content, they may recommend your RSS feed to others. If you don’t have a ready-made audience to rely on, identify a related blog to leverage. Work out an agreement where you’ll promote his or her blog on yours, and vice versa.

4. Think outside the box. Offer an interactive quiz or poll on your blog to entice and entertain readers, but require them to become blog subscribers in order to participate. Or, run a contest that requires a subscription, and create a badge for the winner to be placed on his or her site and link back to your blog. Have some fun and draw added attention to your RSS feed icon by incorporating an animated image.

5. Write often and write well. Don’t underestimate the power of quality content. Without relevant, timely and entertaining content, your readers have no incentive to subscribe to your blog RSS feed. Also, publish frequently and consistently—not just for search ranking purposes, but also so potential blog subscribers know your site is active.

What tactics do you think are most effective for gaining subscribers to your blog?

SEO: Easy way to get 10 high quality bcacklinks to your blog

April 25th, 2010 by ytechcity

I discovered a cool way to get some really good backlinks to your website a short while back when I was checking out some websites that would give you an estimate on how much your website is worth.

I’d like to point out that these website do not provide a very good estimate of your websites value, only you know how much your website is really worth.

However, they do provide a good quality backlink to your website, because as you enter your website domain name for the valuation or traffic statistic and are provided with the result the website displays this information in a manner that Google and the other search engines can see.

And voila! a new backlink is born..

Here’s how you do it.

Visit each website in turn and simply enter the information requested normally they will just ask for your websites domain name but sometimes an email address is also required.

The websites

1) http://www.websiteoutlook.com

2) http://www.statbrain.com

3) http://www.builtwith.com

4) http://snapshot.compete.com

5) http://www.aboutus.org

6) http://www.quantcast.com

7) http://www.cubestat.com

8 ) http://whois.tools4noobs.com

9) http://www.alexa.com/search?

10) http://whois.domaintools.com

Bonus Backlink) http://www.aboutdomain.org/backlinks/
